Project update: HESSO’s Community Library in Afghanistan is adding Green Space

HESSO’s community library has been making significant strides in the last few months and are nearing completion of this versatile, safe space for the community to serve upwards of 2,250 young learners in Afghanistan’s Chak district. The team has been busy installing bookshelves, study tables, and chairs. With limited access to secondary education, the library will serve as an invaluable resource to the province’s students, as well as a resource for lifelong learning to the greater community. Local education advocate Muhammad Hassin described the library as “the most significant project in the district in almost half a century.”

The children and adults from the school, as well as members of the community requested an outdoor volleyball court adjacent to the library, so construction has begun on a green area in the front! Bringing together sports teams from across the province, the volleyball court will also serve as a gateway to the library and connect students from multiple communities to this vital learning resource.
