The award-winning documentary "Into the Light" is a call to action, and GO Campaign has responded. The filmmakers and GO Campaign have come together to raise awareness and establish the Into the Light Education Fund for children affected by HIV/AIDS in Tanzania. According to a 2008 UN-AIDS report, there are an estimated 150,000 orphans and vulnerable children living with HIV/AIDS. Today, there are more than 1 million children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and struggling to survive. We can make a difference for these children.
"Into the Light" is the story of Tanzanian sociologist Mama Lyimo's incredible journey to uncover why HIV/AIDS continues to spread in her country. When Mama Lyimo befriends an AIDS orphan named Suzy, her journey becomes more personal than she ever imagined. We see Lyimo's love for Suzy and her siblings unfold, and when Suzy decides to test her siblings for HIV, Suzy and Lyimo face their worst fears.
Our Into the Light Education Fund helps Suzy and 50 children like her who are affected by HIV/AIDS to gain access to education and life-saving support. Our in-field organizers work directly with these children, enrolling them in school, providing the necessary tuition, uniforms and daily necessities they need.
