Biography

Alexis' mission is to increase literacy levels and access to education for children in developing communities and impoverished areas. A gifted basketball player, Alexis was presented with the opportunity to leave his home country of Cameroon at the age of 15 in order to pursue his education and basketball dreams in the United States. Despite knowing very little English before his arrival, Alexis excelled in high school. He went on to receive his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas, and where he also played for the school's basketball team. Each summer after playing with the Cameroon National Basketball Team, Alexis returned to Maroua--his home village. Realizing how important education was in his own life and wanting to help children in Maroua and elsewhere, he founded Leading through Reading in June 2012.
