GEORGIE SMITH
Biography
Georgie Smith and Melissa Goddard have had a passion for social activism that has greatly influenced both their professional and personal lives. Earlier in their careers, Georgie and Melissa were working together to develop innovative content for the web, TV, and film. One of their web-series featured Georgie as host of a show called The Delish Life, focused on design and cooking. That show inspired an aged out foster youth, Barry Bartlett, to reach out and ask Georgie for help. As he began to share his story about having to house and take care of himself, Georgie and Melissa were moved and ended up furnishing his first apartment, using social media to gather donated furniture and other items. This experience quickly led Georgie and Melissa to found A Sense of Home in order to help other aged out foster youth start their independent lives and pursue more meaningful, productive experience for themselves in years to come.
Georgie and Melissa are driven to create a sense of belonging and purpose in the world for aged out foster youth in the greater Los Angeles area. A Sense of Home is building a volunteer movement across the country beginning in Los Angeles. The experience not only offers the youth a new beginning, a sense of “home” and belonging — but a community that is invested in them succeeding.
