KEZIAH MWAURA

KEZIAH MWAURA

Biography

Keziah Mwaura is a mother, a schoolteacher, and a Local Hero in Nairobi, Kenya. Distressed by seeing all the children suffering on the streets, she decided to do something to help them. Using her own funds, she opened the Gatanga Furaha Children Center (GFCC) where she provides care for 22 orphaned and vulnerable children in need. The young souls at Gatanga have learned how to overcome many obstacles; some of them have lost their parents to AIDS, witnessed their mothers being beaten to death, or were living with elderly or sickly grandparents who were unable to care for them. Despite their struggles, the children are now happy, smiling, and ready to embrace what the future may hold thanks to Keziah dedication. Her goal is to ensure the children to grow up like sisters and brothers in a big loving family with the opportunity to be educated, healthy and lead a fulfilling life. With the comfort of a family and the stable home that Keziah provides, the children are able to not only dream about the future, but they are provided the resources to go after their dreams.

Keziah has rescued the 22 orphans and vulnerable children living at GFCC from the unforgiving streets of Nairobi. The nutritious meals, clothing, education and medical care Keziah provides has given the children a loving home and fresh opportunity to thrive in life.
