NANA MENSAH

Biography

Nana Mensah is the Executive Director of Belize Organic Family Farming (BOFF). He considers himself a “Child of the World.” He was born in Ghana, grew up and was educated in Cuba, and moved to Belize in his twenties where he worked as an engineer. He also taught chemistry, construction, and Spanish at the University of Belize – Toledo Campus. He wanted to be involved in the grassroots movement of the country, so he left his position at the university to work for Sustainable Harvest International (SHI) as their Belize Country Director. He held this position for 10 years. Nana is passionate about sustainable agriculture and protecting the environment for future generations; he helped write the National Climate Change Framework for Belize. With BOFF, he is focused on helping communities use urban gardens to reduce poverty levels; he is particularly interested in helping youth develop these skills so they can be passed on to future generations.
